📸 Introduction: From Free Gig to Full Experience

A little while back, I offered photo and media services to the local library system. A no strings attached service; I wanted to provide services at my own expensive for another's gain—and that small gesture led to something much bigger. The organizers appreciated my gesture and experience; they referred me to SWFLN Paraprofessional Day 2025, and before I knew it, I was booked to photograph an entire conference for the first time!

It was my first time covering a full-on, jam-packed, schedule-filled conference—and I absolutely loved it.

🎭 Starting the Day with Laughter and Improv

Things kicked off with high energy thanks to Florida Studio Theatre Improv. The room was full of laughter, movement, and good vibes. As someone who was about to start snapping portraits of people I’d never met, this kind of relaxed, fun start made my job a lot easier.

Even though I was observing from the sidelines, you could tell how much it helped everyone open up and connect. It was the kind of energy every event should start with.

📚 Workshops That Brought Real-Life Value

Throughout the day, the paraprofessionals—aka the amazing library staff—split off into different sessions on everything from communication skills and task management to handling tough work situations and staying positive in stressful environments.

One of my favorite sessions? The talk about how happiness rewires your brain. It gave real science-backed tips on staying mentally strong in tough work environments. Super practical, super human.

📷 56 Headshots in an Hour: A Blur of Professional Vibes

During the lunch hour, I set up for free professional headshots, and for about an hour, it was nonstop. I ended up taking 56 headshots in that short window—and it flew by.

The best part? Watching people go from “I hate photos” to walking away feeling confident and proud. It was so rewarding to know these headshots could help someone update their LinkedIn or apply for a new opportunity. It was quick, it was fun, and I felt like I got to give something really useful back.

🐾 A Heartfelt Close with Therapy Dogs

The last session of the day featured Beesley Paw Prints, a local therapy dog program—and honestly, it was the perfect way to wind down. Everyone was engaged, and you could feel the room shift into this really relaxed, reflective vibe.

Hearing about the healing power of animals in public spaces like libraries and hospitals gave me all the feels. It was a beautiful reminder of the small things that make big differences in people’s lives.

🍽️ Midday Chats, Snacks, and New Connections

In between sessions and snapping headshots, I had the chance to talk with so many incredible people working in and with libraries. The paraprofessionals were warm, funny, and full of great stories. It was clear that they care deeply about their work—and their communities.

Also, shout-out to the lunch spread: sandwiches, pasta salad, chips, and desserts? Yes, please.

💬 Final Thoughts: One for the Books (and My Camera Roll)

This was more than just another photo job—it was a genuine learning experience and a whole lot of fun. Being around people who are passionate about what they do always sparks something in me, and getting to document it was an honor.

To everyone who trusted me to document the event, take professional headshots and to the amazing team who organized the event: thank you. You made my first conference shoot one I won’t forget.
